"Quality inspection documentation is the key to a positive claims experience."- Brett Goldberg
After spending a combined total of more than 25 years working for some of the largest insurance companies and contracting firms in the country, the founders of Spex came to a sobering conclusion: the property inspection process was stressful, complicated and downright miserable for each and every party involved. Determined to turn this negative experience into a positive and effective one, the Spex Founding Team set out to create a property inspection platform that would revolutionize the industry. With Spex, businesses can demonstrate that they are serious about customer service, professionalism and quality inspection documentation.
In 2012, the Spex co-founders were among the thousands of insurance adjusters caught in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. After experiencing firsthand how traumatic and stressful the process of rebuilding was for homeowners, adjusters, contractors and the insurance companies after the hurricane, one thing became increasingly clear. The traditional methods of property inspection were outdated, inadequate and exasperating for everyone involved. Ineffective tools and workflows led to inconsistent and incomplete data, resulting in ineffective analysis and an increasingly time-consuming process. Confident that there had to be a better way to conduct these inspections, David Cockrel helped start Spex and began work on the inspection tool that would bring property inspections into the 21st century.
After years of research and development, endless hours of coding and extensive product testing both internally and with adjusters, appraisers and contractors, the Spex team has turned their vision into reality. Today, Spex is majority owned by J.S. Held, a premier global construction consulting firm and led by Brett Goldberg, Levi Cook, Jay Contreras and Ben Ogren. Our Team blends subject matter expertise with technology acumen in a way that will continue to drive innovation to the insurance market and related opportunities.
