Overview: The Spex Platform is specifically designed to quickly capture property data in a logical and efficient manner. The Spex field software does an excellent job of capturing a variety of content types through smartphones and tablets. Sometimes, however, you want to use another form of data capture - from drones, to snake cams, satellite imagery to IOT devices, if the tool you want to use exports the content in any standard file format, it can be brought into a Spex Project. This empowers Spex users to leverage almost any data capture tool on the market to more efficiently complete inspections and share the very best content to any collaborators. Below you will find the various methods to bring-in 3rd party content to a Spex Project from the Dashboard. You can also bring in 3rd party content in the field on a tablet or smartphone using the share extension (see this article for details on how to do this).
- Property Wide 3rd Party Documentation: We recommend using the attachments section of a project for any property wide data. Examples of property wide documentation include satellite photography, property schematics, property wide drone video footage, coverages and other insurance related documentation. This can include any type of content that you think might aid your inspector in the field or be important to the finished report. The following outlines how we organize content and what type of content we allow in each type of attachment.
a) Audio: m4a audio files - navigate to the correct file or files, select and click “open”b) Diagrams: .pdf or .png files - navigate to the correct file or files, select and click “open”c) Documents: You can upload any file type (note: not all file types will display a thumbnail or generate a preview if clicked on but will be exported on a final export if shared). Navigate to the correct file or files, select and click “open”d) Note: If selected, this option opens a dialogue box that allows you to write custom notes and adds it as an attachmente) Photos: .jpg, .jpeg or .png files - navigate to the correct file or files, select and click “open”f) Video: .mp4 files - navigate to the correct file or files, select and click “open”
- Area Specific 3rd Party Documentation: This type of content is usually more specific to a certain area and task. For example, you may have shingle and roof photo’s from a drone operation that you’d like to add to the roof section of a specific building on the property. Alternatively, you may have snake-cam footage related to a pipe in the bathroom of a house… no matter what type of content you would like to bring, the following steps will walk you through the process of bringing that content in.
a) Adding a Structure or Area (when needed): Make sure you have set-up the correct structure and area for this content to live in - this may mean more than one structure or area as well (say you have drone roof photos of more than one building). To set up a structure or area, follow these steps:i. Click “+ Add Structure” to the right of the “Structures Overview” headingii. Select the correct Structure from the list - in this case we will assume the property is a “house”iii. Click “Save”iv. Click “+ Area” to the right of the “House” headingv. Select the correct area of the house for this footage - in this case, we will choose roof. If the area has already been set up as a pre-set option in settings, it should automatically select the correct location, however, if you write in your own custom area, you may have to additionally select the area’s location (Interior v. Exterior)vi. Click “Save”b) Adding Content: So long as the structure and area is present, the next step is to add your 3rd party content. To do so, take the following steps:i. Click “+ Entry”ii. Select the type of entry you wish to add. Your options are Audio, Diagram, Note, Photos and Video. In this example, we will select Photosiii. Browse to and select the correct Photos1. You can select one or more photos at a timeiv. Click “open” - you will see the progress of the photos being added in the lower righthand corner
